The Station of the Cross History
In the mid 1990’s, while visiting the monastery at EWTN, Mother Angelica, Foundress of EWTN, asked Jim and Joanne Wright to go back home to Buffalo and start a Catholic radio apostolate. Jim and Joanne did not have any radio or media experience. After prayerful discernment, The Station of the Cross was started with the goal of bringing Catholic radio to Western New York. After overcoming a number of challenges, The Station of the Cross began broadcasting as WLOF 101.7 FM Buffalo on August 15, 1999. WLOF is dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. WHIC 1460 AM Rochester began broadcasting on July 1, 2003. WHIC is dedicated to Our Lady’s Holy and Immaculate Conception. WQOM 1060 AM Boston began broadcasting November 1, 2010 and is dedicated to Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. Our newest addition is WMTQ 88.1FM Elmira/Corning which began broadcasting February 7, 2011. The Station of the Cross has borne abundant fruit over the past 11 years and we believe that God is not finished with this radio apostolate.
iCatholicRadio launched for the iPhone/iPad/iPod on the Feast of Pentecost May 23, 2010 aiming to bring the Gospel message to mobile devices through solid Catholic radio programming.
